One of our goals is respect, and out of respect for our patients’ time, we try to avoid mind-numbing pages of policies and procedures and endless papers requiring the same information again and again.
Instead, we’ve distilled how we like to do business with our clients in the following list, which we ask that you take a moment to read.
No one wants to sit in a waiting room while the doctor is running behind. We try our best to operate as close to our scheduled appointment time as is reasonably possible. Occasionally, circumstances or emergencies beyond our control prevent us from doing that, but we do our best. Always.
We often have a waiting list of clients who are hoping for cancellations and would gladly take your appointment should you not be able to arrive on time. Please call us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule your visit. Late arrivals inconvenience every patient with an appointment later that day.
We may assess fees for appointments missed or canceled without 24 hours notice.
You should know and understand your insurance contract; this includes co-pays, deductibles, annual renewal dates, the name of your insurance, and all ID numbers. Any charges not covered by your insurance are your responsibility. We are required, by law, to collect all deductibles, co-pays, and non-covered charges.
We invoice vision and medical insurance (i.e. participating insurance companies) for covered services and products.
Depending on the complexity of an insurance question or problem, particularly involving prior authorization requests, we may or may not be able to assist you without an additional charge. We will tell you if we believe that the extra time needed to resolve your issue will incur an additional fee.

Dr. Newton strives to treat patients the way anyone would like to be treated, and to provide quality care with the personal attention often missing in today’s world.
Dr. Lee Newton grew up in mid-Michigan and has provided eye care and vision care to the residents of Bay County since October, 2000.
He attended Central Michigan University for undergraduate work and then attended and graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry in May, 2000.
Rigorously independent at heart, Dr. Newton considers himself fortunate to have been able to purchase an existing practice in Bay City the year he graduated. This allowed him to remain passionate about providing the best care for his patients’ needs under his own terms – without being constrained by corporate policies and procedures that, in his words, tend to distort the quality and delivery of care.
Dr. Newton has been married to his wife, Mollie, for 23 years. A former teacher, Mollie works in the practice 4 days per week and coordinates the optical end of the practice – managing frames, lenses, and even producing the lenses in your glasses. Together, they have two daughters – Anika, a student at Central Michigan University; and Chloe, a student at John Glenn High School in Bangor Township.
A unique and special area of eye care interest is children’s vision care. Children have very special vision needs, and even though a child may be able to read the 20/20 line of letters, this does not mean that he or she possesses the visual skills necessary to perform well and thrive in school.
Hobbies include music, real estate, and construction.
Music – Dr. Newton has played saxophone since 1985 and has had the good fortune to rub shoulders with industry giants such as Bruce Hornsby and Branford Marsalis. In addition, he has performed at Hard Rock Cafes in Las Vegas and Times Square.
Real Estate – “History’s most proven asset class” – Dr. Newton has been immersed in real estate, starting with his own home and office, for decades. He feels there is nothing quite like the satisfaction from a home or office improvement project, especially when he is able to roll up his sleeves and participate.
Construction – Dr. Newton has been sought after in the commercial real estate development space. He is the author of the prolific blog, “Cutting Edge Insights with Dr. Lee.” As well, he has been instrumental in helping several other doctors and health care professionals design and build their own professional practices, saving them as much as $1 million in the process.
In addition, Dr. Newton is a 2x best-selling author, with his most recent book achieving #1 ranking in over 30 categories on Amazon. If you’d like a free digital copy, send him an email at Lee@DrLeeNewton.com.
Dr. Newton looks forward to providing you and your family with the very best in eye health and vision care.
